Plans for the Ohio Wheelmen
Memorabilia Meet on March 19, 2011
![]()
The Ohio Wheelmen sponsors an annual Memorabilia Meet at the Bicycle Museum of America in quaint New Bremen, Ohio. The meet brings together people who collect memorabilia from the golden age of cycling around the turn of the century (1880-1918).
We expect a wide range of collections including cyclometers, lanterns, sheet music, badges, ribbons, tools, and more. Last year, we had indoor displays and trading as well as high wheel re-tiring being done outside. All-in-all, we had over 60 Wheelmen and friend participants that day in addition to a dozen or so members of the public going through the museum. A review and photos from last year's meet are available on-line.
Some updates about activities planned for the 2011 Memorabilia Meet:
- Lorne Shields (Toronto) is planning to bring another cycling photograph show.
- Britton Black, a Chicago area art/portrait photographer, will attend with a portable photo studio to continue his project of photographing modern Wheelmen on their antique bicycle. Samples are viewable on his website.
- Cigdem Gina has also offered assistance with you assembling an outfit for such a photo. Please contact me if you wish to arrange a costume/outfit. I have many ladies hats I can bring, but only if it is needed or requested. Most of my lady outfits are already been photographed. But I will work with you to create new outfits for you, since we still have time for thrift shopping :). So get in contact with me ASAP (not a day before the event, I am coming from Chicago!), I would be glad to try to help you form a costume, ladies and gents. (e-mail: cido67 @ yahoo dot com)
- Of course, we'll have the memorabilia exhibit & swap shop area! Of course!
Contact Annette at the Bicycle Museum of America if you would like to rent a table for $10.
Participants can also tour the museum. The museum has a vast collection of bikes, both new and old and everything in-between.
An interactive map is available to guide you there with driving directions if you wish.
