Strawberry Festival
Troy, Ohio

This festival is a big fund-raiser for area non-profit organizations. A huge parade is held on Saturday morning and Wheelmen have been involved for years. Five Wheelmen thrilled the crowds this year. Some Wheelmen ventured into the festival grounds after the parade to consume strawberry shortcake and strawberry donuts. The fountain in the center of town is turned a rose color for the festival.

Inaugural FORTH Race - Four-corner Ordinary Race for Three Hours
Archbold, Ohio

This event was a trial run of a three hour high wheel bicycle race that will be held every year (hopefully) but primarily as part of the Wheelmen National Meet in 2012. The FORTH race mimics the style of the Great Knutsford Race held in England where the winner is the rider who covers the greatest distance in three hours of racing. The FORTH race, though, will be on a four-mile square on rural roads as opposed to a 0.4 mile course within a urban park.

Check this FORTH photo page to see additional photographs from the 2010 race.

Sauder Village Regional Meet (Regional Meet)
Archbold, Ohio

This meet is hosted by Sauder Village in northwest Ohio. The pleasant, shaded village green provides ample room for the hundred or so antique bicycles gathered there. The paved circle provides an excellent demonstration track to review the development of the bicycle. The 2010 meet was held on August 9 - 10, 2010. This meet is held every other year, alternating with the Michigan Wheelmen's Mackinac Island Meet.

The 2010 meet was held on August 7 - 8. Selected photos are shown on a photo page. Someone made a YouTube video during Saturday's bicycle history parade.

Great American Brass Band Festival in June
Danville, Kentucky

This is a great weekend in a great city with great brass bands playing nearly non-stop. The Wheelmen lead the Saturday parade ahead of the bands and other units. The Wheelmen also entertain the crowds at the Stuart Powell Field during the Great American Balloon Race. Danville, Kentucky is alive with the sound of music for the weekend.

Check this more complete photo page to see additional photographs from the 2010 festival and balloon race.

Bremenfest Parade in August 2010
New Bremen, Ohio

This is a great parade in another great small city. The Bicycle Museum of America brought out 30 balloon tire bikes and recruited a phalanx of appropriately dressed riders to show off the bikes in the parade.

Wheelmen were represented by four riders on high wheel bicycles following the balloon tire bikes.

Photographs, videos, and an archive article
Findlay, Ohio

Bob Balcomb explained that this meet was the largest ever gathering of century-old bicycles with 422 machines represented. Enjoy this sampling of photos and videos from the archives. A Sports Illustrated on-line archive has been found that mainly covers the races conducted during the meet. Names are named! Quotes are cited!

The Ohio Wheelmen are planning a "Return to Findlay" for The Wheelmen Annual Meet in 2012.
